I don't think these are inspected before they ship. The unit I received is not useable in any sort of real world performance without causing undue suspicion on the prop.
The deck case shell does NOT fit well into the main shell. It's too tight and makes a loud metallic noise when I finally get the deck shell to release or go back into the main shell.
It's so tight that you have to use two hands to release the deck shell from the main shell so some of the subtle moves cannot be done with this. When removing a deck of cards from a box, it shouldn't take so much effort which makes the use of this item ridiculously suspicious.
It was my understanding that the only thing that should be holding the deck shell in place with the main shell are the magnets, but unfortunately due to the lack of precision the magnets are not necessary to keep the deck shell and the main shell coalesced... the fact that it's not fitted properly, the two pieces are forced together and must be forced to separate.
If this was a $30 item, I wouldn't expect very much in craftsmanship... but I expect better for a $140 item.
This is not usable in real world performances. I'll return to using the cheap plastic/paper version I've been successfully using for decades. No one has ever questioned the cheap version, and with the cheap version, I can toss what appears to be an empty card case to the side and no one has ever thought twice about it because it's obviously empty... which is something you couldn't do with this heavy metal version. With the cheap version, I have a handling where the participant uses their finger to press on the card box and the card box immediately appears to vanish and turns into their selected card right under their finger... they feel this magic. You can also use an Omni Deck gimmick with the cheaper original version of this effect.
When you slide a card case (full of cards or empty) into the main shell, it shouldn't ever make a metal on metal noise. I purchased this $140 version in hopes that the magnets would make it work seamlessly without that metal on metal noise... but like I said earlier, since the two shells are too tight to easily slide in and out of each other, the magnets are unnecessary and the metal on metal noise that it makes when engaging or disengaging the two shells from each other makes this another item for the drawer of unusable magic.
I'll keep working the two shells in and out of each other in hopes that someday they will fit better, and if that works, I'll update my review here... but due to the fact that it's metal, I don't think that will ever happen. Is it possible that I received a model that wasn't inspected before it was released?
I like most magic that I purchase, but this item gets a bad review from me.
