I have had this Tenyo trick for a while, and never used it. I now realize that I should mention why. First, the trick uses the dowsing rods the wrong way. When I was taught how to use “real” rods they moved closer together when you were standing over what you were dowsing for, they did not spread apart. In this trick you are supposed to have the rods spread apart when they locate the object hidden in one of four envelopes. In truth, you could probably preform this trick having the rods close together, but because of the way the gimmick is made that may be hard to do. The gimmick is also finicky, it is hard to get it to work smoothly and it will take a lot of practice to be able to do the necessary movements without anyone noticing. The last thing that bothers me about this trick is you actually have to tell the spectator which card of four to hide the object you want to detect with the rods in!! You do have them shuffle the four envelopes, but they have to be placed on the table in a certain way that would also make one suspicious of what you are doing. They provide a few different routines to use, all of which I think are better than the principle routine, but all in all this is one of my least favorite Tenyo tricks.
