Like most John Kennedy magic tricks, this one requires a moderate amount of practice to get it presentable. Mr. Kennedy is talented and makes his magic look easier than it often is, and as you've seen on the video, it really does look magical. It's not that it's difficult to do or anything like that, and the clever method certainly helps, but it's certainly not self-working so you'll have to put the time in to actually ever perform it. This is old-school magic with some modern thinking on John's part. The knife is just that, a small pocket knife. For the money I think it could have been a nicer piece. I don't mean that in a bad way since the knife does work fine for the effect and it is for the most part a knife, just a very cheap one. It is ungimmicked and once you learn the method you'll be able to do the trick with other knives, providing there's a couple of properties in the build. So, to sum up it's a great effect and quite practical for walk-around. It's just a bit over-priced for what you get. Done smoothly, it will shock anyone seeing it. I rate the tricks based on its real world effectiveness so it's certainly a 5-star effect. If it wasn't for that however, for the price and props I would have given it 3-stars. I've seen this method before with similar knives in other magic books, the gimmick and handling is what's unique in John's version.
