This is an expensive prop but worth the price. Being able to make flash paper and paper matches ignite on command in a normal looking ash tray, from a distance (up to 30 feet) by remote, is a valuable apparatus to own. I imagine you have already read about and viewed the 'Flash Tray' in action, so I'll focus this review on the internals of the prop(s).
The ashtray and its inner workings are very well done. When I say "well done" I'm not giving it the justice it deserves as there are many gambits of its very clever and thought out design. The secret compartment is held in place by strong magnets and precision engineering which keeps it in place safely and securely during inspection and handling but can be very easily removed for charging or switching the device either on and off. The electronics are on a custom circuit board which has a micro USB plug-in slot, an on off switch, and a wonderful red LED bulb that indicates when the battery is fully charged.
The last thing I'd like to mention about this prop is that it looks and feels like a typical ashtray. There is no extra heaviness of any particular spot / area when handling the ashtray. It feels absolutely normal from all aspects. In other words even the secret hardware has been perfectly balanced in construction, so no abnormalities are present in the feel of the ashtray if suddenly grabbed by a spectator.
The remote control isn't pretty by any means though it is functional and reliable. There's a tiny light on it as well that indicates battery power and signal transmission. Everything is held in place by a rubber shrink sleeve, which also serves as its housing. Like I said, not pretty but functional. It is small and can be discretely palmed, stuck underneath a table (black stick putty is included) or kept in a pocket.
I get about 10 - 13 ignitions per charge which is plenty for my walk around gigs and being micro USB is easy to charge with a computer or wall outlet (adapter required for the latter).
