PART 2 of my review. This is the most important part to read. I give this a 5 star rating, but not because of the DVD instructions: they get a 3 star at best. The first time I did this I used a pre-made newspaper gimmick. This time I made the gimmick myself. It easily took 1 1/2 hours to do the first time. WHY, WHY, WHY can't these guys have the camera viewing the action from OVER their shoulder, instead of head on??!! I know, they are vain and want to see themselves on film. BUT, it sure would make it easier for us poor slobs trying to make these complicated gimmicks to see how it is done from OUR point of view.
Here are some tips that will make your job easier. Pay very close attention when he says to turn the whole newspaper to the right. Really. I turn to the right from the TOP down. He turns to the right from the bottom up!! He should have said clockwise if that was what he meant. He never uses that terminology. IF you make this 1/4 turn the wrong way the entire thing comes out wrong.
He does not address what size newspaper to use. You will have to make adjustments that he does not address if your paper is smaller (like mine) or larger than the one he uses. Pay VERY close attention to the way the words are on the sheets of paper you assemble. Once again he does not go into detail on this, he just casually mentions it. The only way I found I could get things oriented properly was to stop motion, zoom in, and read the text on the paper he was using so I got things right!
Lastly, he talks about cutting a square hole in the paper. It is a rectangle, not square, and once again, you will have to adjust the size hole you cut to the size newspaper you are using. If I had followed his instructions my hole would have been way too large. His instructions start off great. Unfortunately, because he has made so many, he skips over very important details that we need to know. Pay CLOSE attention. Good luck.
