A Borrowed quarter is pushed against the blade of a sword.
The coin is suddenly cut into two pieces which fall separately into the bottom of the case.
The quarter is clearly in two pieces, even when viewed from any angle
When the magician lifts up the two pieces, they join together to form a single coin once again.
This concept was originally going to be applied to a Piggy bank idea. A small sword was located near the opening of the Piggy bank, and when a coin was dropped into the box through this opening, the coin would appear to be cut in two by the blade.
However, it was not possible to complete because the gimmick was impractical to be used for a Piggy bank. We eventually reworked the effect so that it could be incorporated into a different magic trick.
By adding some magic-related touches, we were able to make it appear that one coin is sliced in two, and then restored to a single coin.
