The magician passes the apparatus behind back, and when it returns to view, the #1 rope is straight but the #3 rope is knotted!
He passes the apparatus again behind his back, and when it returns to audience view, the knot has jumped from #3 back to #1!
After many repeats, the audience begins to believe that he was only flipping the bar backwards behind his back.
